2/12/09   Training and Racing schedule taking shape!

    Happy New Year to everyone!

Our team has been hard at work the past month and a half preparing for the season.  We have some exciting new events in store on the velodrome including 2 new weekly racing series, professional racing clinics, junior race series, youth summer day camps and USAC sanctioned Regional Championships.  We are also finalizing the weekly race schedule and hope to have all the events posted on Bikereg.

12/20/08   UNH Cycling names new head coach

Tony Eberhardt of the New England Velodrome and Cycling Park has accepted the position of head coach for the University of New Hampshire road cycling team.  The position is for the spring collegiate road cycling season which runs from March through May.  Tony is please to have Patrick Goguen the current New England Track champion and accomplished road and cyclocross racer as his assistant coach.  The duo are preparing to begin working with the team in mid-January.  With any luck, after the road season, you should see the UNH cycling team making its presence felt on the velodrome this coming season.

12/11/08 Cyclo-cross series comes to an end

Our first cyclo-cross season at the NEV&CP was a big success.  Training races on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays were well received by riders looking for weekly practice.  Thanks to Patrick Goguen who designed the course and ran the races and the training classes.  We would also like to thank Justin Spinelli for taking his time to instruct riders in a free advance training clinic.  As we prepare for the winter, we are looking to expand the cyclo-cross course for next year.  Continued improvment of our facility is always our first priority.  We are also considering a short Spring cyclo-cross series before the track and BMX seasons begin.  Thank you to everyone who came out to support us in 2008!

11/04/08 Blog and pull down menu’s added to web site

The blog on the web site is now up and running.  Please use it to communicate with us and others regarding our facility and any other cycling information.   We have also added pull down menu’s to help clean up the Home page.  We are still trying to work out a few kinks to allow you to see the entire menu, nut hopefully this will be done by the end of the week.

10/14/08  BMX construction in full swing

Construction continues on the new Velocity BMX track located at the New England Velodrome and Cycling Park.  A few of the initial berms are in place and are presently being used as part of our Cyclo-cross course.  This will help compact the dirt and prepare it for BMX racing.   There is still a lot of work to be done, but with the help of Bobcat of NH and the Thibeault Corporation of NH , we are well on  the way to constructing one of New England’s premier BMX facilities.  Anyone interested in helping out should contact Tony Eberhardt at (603) 566-0230.

9/30/08  24 Hours on the track

Bill Ingraham and Jessica Eckhardt, both NEBCers, rode from 6:00pm on Saturday night through the rain until 6:00pm Sunday night on the New England Velodrome in Londonderry, NH to establish 24-hr records.  The amazing results: Bill Ingraham, 67, Scituate, MA rolled 304.6 miles, and
Jessica Eckhardt, 26, Cambridge, MA rolled out 355.8 miles.

Many, many thanks to Tony Eberhardt of NEV&CP for providing the venue!  Tony is excited about these amazing feats.  He’d like to run some distance events next season, perhaps one-hour trials, or a 12-hour trial.  Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, congratulate Jessica and Bill when you see them.

9/26/08 67 year old cyclist to attempt 24 hour ride on track

Bill Ingraham, a 67 year old ultra cyclist will attempt a 24 hour solo ride on the New England Velodrome in Londonderry NH beginning at 6 PM on Saturday Sept 27th and ending at 6 PM am Sunday the 28th.   Although this is Ingraham’s first 24 hour attempt at the New England Velodrome (NEV), it is not his first attempt at 24 hours.  With numerous 24 hour rides on his resume, Bill’s personal record is 324.8 miles.  With this attempt, he is hoping to break 300 miles and possibly shoot for a new personal record of 325.  Bill says that super human athletic feats of any kind are often beyond the ability of "normals" to grasp.  Case in point - Marko Baloh, a race across America rider, set four UMCA ( Ultra Marathon Cycling Association) records at the Polena outdoor track in Lenart, Slovenia on Sept 6th & 7th 2008.  Baloh rode 100 miles in 4 hours 29 seconds, 200 miles in 8 hours, 17 minutes, 8 seconds, 286 miles, 314 feet in 12 hours and 553 miles 255 feet in 24 hours.  Bill maintains that the only people who can properly appreciate 553 miles on a bike in 24 hours are Harley owners.  Bill thinks that 67 year old nursing home candidates (such as himself), struggling to achieve such paltry mileage with little if any talent are easier for the public to associate with and may even induce a younger ( and fitter) rider to try his/her legs (and butt) for a day to see how many miles they can do. Bill tells me that he was at a pre-race meeting at the Ironman triathlon in Plymouth, Ma last month where the race director told the athletes, " No one cares what your time is - except you!" How true!

Bill welcomes spectators and other riders to join him during his ride anytime between 6 pm Saturday and 6 PM on Sunday.  If you would like to ride the track with him, we ask for no drafting as all of Bill’s attempts are purely solo.

    4/13/08 - Boston Beanpot Classic

Thanks to Keith Cardoza for letting us set up a booth on Sunday for the Tufts Criterium. It was a cold day for riding and for spectators, but we made a lot of new contacts and were able to to let some of the collegiate cyclists know about the ECCC race we’ll be hosting in September this year. Thanks to all of you who stopped by to see us. We’ll look forward to seeing some new faces this season at the track. Don’t forget the benefits of track riding/racing for improving your skills on the road. You’ll improve your handling skills and become better sprinters by training at the track!

04/08/08- Weekend track clean up a huge success!

On Saturday a crew of 15, including: Amy Wallace, Scott Wilson, Greta Zygmont, Lodrina Cherne, Jerry White, Craig Roth, Nixie Bombardier, Seth Davis, Jeff Bramhall, Jeff Askin, Barry Greenberg, Mike and Ryan Powers, Steven Gauthier, Tony Eberhardt, and Laurie Daley were able to remove approximately 2000 tires from turn 2 and turn 4. On Sunday, a group of 13 including J eff Walsh, Craig Roth, Greta Zygmont, Phil Kenealy, Andy Masia, Natalya Boltukhova, Mike McKittrick, Greg & Susan Bernhardt, Kim Messa, Tony Eberhardt, Laurie Daley, and Garabed Minasian icked battled damp conditions while adding another 1500 tires to the discard pile. Progress was also made on a retaining wall behind the track between turn 3-4. It will become an area for improved spectator viewing. With the help of our T250 Turbo Bobcat donated by our new sponsor, Bobcat of New Hampshire , Scott Wilson, Mike Powers and Tony Eberhardt were able to begin removing dirt and debris from behind the boards and were also able to grade the slope away from the track surface. Once this is completeed, it will allow for the installation of fence pipe to which we will attach the new boards. On of our goals is to provide a pathway around the perimeter of the track so spectators can find a good location from which to cheer for their favorite racer.

There is plenty of work still to be done, so stay connected for more details on the upcoming work parties.
